Sketchbook Sunday, Part The Eleventh

Someone commented last time that maybe I should just do the Movie and Song of the day if I can't think of something to write. I guess that would help you to know that I'm still here, so I'll give it a try. That said, I actually do have some things to say today.

We've been on an efficiency kick after we finished cleaning up the bomb site that was left after the in-laws evacuated, so I decided to really get down to it and work on my end-of-month review. After eight straight hours I finally finished up the script! It's probably my most negative review so far (aside from FFVII:AC if course), but I'm still quite pleased with it, so I'll hype it up a bit. It's a  solo review of Mewtwo Returns. I'll give a release date when the titlecard is done, but it should be interesting!

Now, for some sketches.

Funnily enough, my sketches are pokemon related too, it really seems to be becoming my thing. When I found out that there might be a prevolution of Pinsir in X and Y, I thought it'd be interesting to design one for Scyther. Here's what I came up with.

Not sure about the eyes, but think I caught the style well enough. Jess added the Joltik XD. Here's an older sketch I did of Meganium:
I always thought Meganium could look a little cooler.

Movie of the day: The Pirates! Band Of Misfits. I really wanted to like this one, the animation is just jaw-dropping and Aardman is nearly always a good bet. I don't know though, maybe it's because the screenplay was by the same guy who wrote the books, but it doesn't seem to have that  same charm the earlier films and shorts had. Worth a look for the sheer scope of the work involved here, honestly it's a real claymation milestone. I just wish it was more... I don't know, BRITISH in it's humour, maybe it's just me.

Song of the day: Final Fantasy VII Short Skirts OC ReMix by DJ Pretzel and Vigilante. I always thought Tifa had a better theme than Aeris, and this is a really sweet yet sassy version of it. Great use of Santana guitar.

Wow! You're doing Mewtwo Returns after all?! Awesome! I read that a lot of people were wondering whether you guys were gonna do it at all or not. Glad to see you're doing it solo!

(...though I still wish it had been a non-Pokemon anime, but that's just me being a whiny nut)

Nice sketches. Looking forward to the Mewtwo Returns review. I saw it when I was a kid but haven't seen it since.
